The two-day "Chairman's Cup School Chess Championship" organized by Kathmandu Metropolitan City-4 is starting on Wednesday. More than 200 players from more than dozen schools will compete in the championship managed by Himalayan Chess Academy (HCA).
Ward President Dinesh Maharjan said that Kathmandu Metropolitan City-4 held the Chairman's Cup School Chess Championship in order to enhance the capacity of local students, identify talents and create opportunities through chess (intellectual) game. In the championship, students studying in schools within ward number 4 and local children studying outside the ward will compete.
The founder of Himalayan Chess Academy, Monalisha Khambu, said that chess will improve the intellectual development of the students as well as their studies. In the competition to be held in the hall of Mahendra National High School in Baluwatar, 6 competitions for boys and girls have been included based on the class in which the players are studying. Points will be given to the schools based on the medals. The school with the highest number of points will become the Chairman's Cup champion.
