2 hours 15 minutes 03 seconds. This is a record timing for a marathon race. This timing of the South Asian Games is unshakable in the name of Nepali runner Vaikunth Manandhar for 38 years.
In the third South Asian Games held in Kolkata, India in 1987, Vaikuntha won the marathon gold in that record time. Even till the 13th edition of SAG is over, no South Asian runner has come out to break the record.
Panchnarayan Astnarayan Cycle Shop, which carries the glorious history of bicycles, has tried to revive that time of Vaikunth.
The shop (currently Pank Nepal) with a history of 100 years has released a limited edition bicycle in his name and timing to honor Vaikunth Manandhar on the occasion of his diamond jubilee.
Today, June 3, is also World Bicycle Day. Kathmandu Metropolitan City Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangol handed over the special bicycle to Olympian runner Vaikuntha as an honor on behalf of Pank. Tirek Manandhar, CEO of Pank Nepal, said that his organization's effort is to connect cycling and running in the concept of 'Legacy in Motion'. He said, 'Introducing bicycles for the first time in Nepal is an attempt to combine the legacy of my ancestors and the speed of Vaikuntha Manandhar. We believe that this step will add a new dimension to Nepali sports.
Pank Nepal is the first bicycle shop in Nepal. In Asan Kamalakshi, in 1925, his ancestor bought 6 bicycles from India CEO Manandhar reminded that he started the business by bringing. He said that he is handling the business as the fifth generation. He said that efforts were made to revive the achievements of the person while he was still alive.
Vaikunth Manandhar, Nepal's only runner who has played in four Olympics, said that this bicycle will remain as a symbol because the important achievements of his life are being branded. He said, "I have received a bicycle with my name and achievements as a gift. This will be an important symbol of my life.
Pank Nepal has made 100 limited edition bicycles under the name of Vaikuntha. Some percent of the amount raised from its sale will be given to Vaikunth Manandhar Sports Nepal Organization as royalty. In the
event, Ramesh Subedi of sports journalist Naya Patrika Dainik received a bicycle from a lucky draw.
