13th Kantipur Half Marathon on 17th May, increase in prize money

The 13th edition of Kantipur Half Marathon organized by Kantipur Publications Limited every year is going to be held on Saturday 17th May.  This year's slogan of Kantipur Half Marathon presented by Global IME Bank is 'Let's Run for Greener Tomorrow'.

Kantipur Half Marathon has been established as a prestigious run in Nepali athletics. Mahesh Swaran, CEO of Kantipur Publications, said in a press conference held on Sunday that Kantipur Marathon is succeeding in the concept of City Marathon organized in different countries. The half marathon will be broadcasted live on Kantipur Max Television, Ekantipur.com, Kantipur Event YouTube page. 

The 13th edition of Kantipur Half Marathon will have 4 categories for both men and women. The half marathon will be 21.1 km . In other 3 categories, college run will be 7 km, corporate and celeb run will be 5 km and wheelchair race will be 3 km.  CEO Swar informed that there will be more than 2,500 participants in all categories of

. He informed that the cash prize amount has also been increased this year while refining the half marathon every year. According to him, the total prize money of the competition is 8 lakhs in cash and gift hamper worth 4 lakhs.

The male and female winners of the Kantipur Half Marathon will each win a prize of 1 lakh 50 rupees. Second to sixth will win 75, 50, 30, 20 and 10 thousand respectively. 

The winner of the wheelchair race will win 35,000 rupees, the second runner-up will win 25,000 rupees and the third runner-up will win 15,000 rupees. Athletes who set the course record in the half marathon will win an additional 25,000 . 

For men, Harikumar Rimal has a course record of 1 hour 6 minutes 41 seconds. On the women's side, Kanchimaya Koju has a record of 1 hour 19 minutes 22 seconds. Both were made in the seventh edition . Last year Kantipur Half Marathon was won by Deepak Adhikari of Army and Rajpura Pachai of Police.  Top 3 male and female finishers in

corporate run and college run will get various prizes and gift hampers. 

The Kantipur Half Marathon will start from the Central Business Park in Thapathali where Kantipur has its office. is . 

Olympian Santoshi Shrestha, Pushpa Bhandari, Purnalakshmi Neupane, Rajan Rokay, Khadak Bahadur Khadka, Gopichandar Parki and other well-known national athletes will participate in the half marathon. 

The corporate run will start from Central Business Park and pass through Thapathali, Maitighar Mandla, Baneshwar, Civil Hospital and then pass through Baneshwar Mandla, Maitighar, Thapathali and end at Central Business Park . The wheelchair race will start from Central Business Park, Thapathali, Maitighar Mandla, and will finish in Central Business Park by putting funkos in front of the electricity market bridge.

College Run from Thapathali, Maitighar Mandla, Baneshwar, Thinkune and passing through Baneshwar, Maitighar, the race will end in front of the Central Business Park . 

The main sponsor of Kantipur Half Marathon with the technical support of Nepal Athletics Association is Global IME Bank, Celebration Partner KFC and Pizza Heart, Pain Relief Partner Zhandu Wam, Food Partner Nepal Food and Climate Justice Partner Save the Children, Airlines Partner Shree Airlines, Sports Wear Partner Kelmi.

Race Director Athletics Association RK Bista informed about the technical aspects of the competition. He said that there is a state of preparation for the necessary technical manpower competition along with the route.  Traffic management also plays a major role in the

race competition. Traffic Police Chief Vinod Ghimire reminded that they have been together in the Kantipur Half Marathon from the first to the present edition and promised that the traffic will be managed so that the participants can run without any hindrance. 

Dilip Pokharel, Assistant General Manager of Global IME Bank, the main sponsor, said that he felt proud to be associated with this prestigious marathon competition for a long time. He said that he wants to say that even if it is one day, let's run and have fun.

In Kantipur Half Marathon, which started in 2067, in the year 2075, the maximum number of 2,560,000 people ran 'Kantipur Half Marathon'. CEO Swar said that even with equal prizes for men and women, the attraction of athletes towards Kantipur Half Marathon is increasing.  Among the successful players of the

competition are Kanchimaya Koju for women and Harikumar Rimal for men. Kanchimaya has won the Kantipur Half Marathon five times and Harikumar four times. Only athletes who have reached the age of 18 will be allowed to participate in the half marathon.

Kantipur Publications has been doing 'Kantipur Half Marathon' on the 7th of February with its first seven editions. CEO Swar said that it should be made a separate category and started organizing the competition on a different date from the eighth edition.

It is said that the registration will be open at the office of Kantipur Publications located at Central Business Park in Thapathali until 14th of May. It is also said that you can register your name online at kantipurevents.com .
