Erica Gurung, the medal winner of the last edition, has gone medalless in the 21st ACF Asian Senior Karate Championship. All the Nepalese players who competed on Friday including Erica, were without medals.
This edition started on Friday in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Asiad medalist Erica won silver in the 20th edition of this competition in Hangzhou last year. It was the first big medal won by Nepal in the Asian Championship.
Erica, who competed in the women's 68 kg weight group, had a fast start by defeating Chinese Taipei's Lin Yi-Hasan by 4-3 points in the first fight. However, in the second round match, she lost 2-1 in a competitive match against Mokhlaroyim Khakimjonova of the host country Uzbekistan. In the
championship, 11 players from Nepal along with Erika competed. On the first day, Sanumaya Thing and Sajan Moktan missed the bronze medal. Both were medalless after losing the second match in the repechage. Sanumaya won three matches and Sajan won two matches.
Competing in women's single kata, Sanumaya advanced by scoring 36.40 in the first match. Her competitor Sanon Lyon of Singapore scored 35.30. In the second match, she defeated Macau's Lam Sau Soi. While Sanumaya scored 35.90, Lam scored only 35.10. In the third round, she lost to Hong Kong Grace Lau Mo Sheung. Sanumaya scored 35.70 while Gess scored 39.10.
Then Sanumaya reached the repechage. In the first match, she defeated Saudi Arabia's Manal Azaid. Sanumaya scored 37.80 while Manal scored only 35.20. Sanumaya, who reached the medal fight with this win, lost to Vietnam's Tram Nguyen. While she scored 37.40, Tram scored 39.60 and won the bronze medal.

Women's under 55 kg Savina Shrestha won 6-0 against Kyrgyzstan's Amina Tairova. In the second round match, she lost 2-0 to Vietnam's Thi Mai Tam Hong. Then she got a chance in the repechage. There, Savina was defeated by Japan's Airi Shima 7-1.
Women's under 50 kg Anjali Maharjan lost to Hong Kong's Tin Yi Sang by 3-0 points in the first match. Nirupa Dong Tamang lost to China's Chenling Wang by 8-0 in the women's under-61 kg category.
Men's under 84 kg, Muhammad Sheikhu Alam of Nepal was also defeated in the first match. He got a bye in the first round and was defeated by Chen-N Pan from Chinese Taipei by 6-1 points. Min Bahadur Tamang, a competitor weighing under 60 kg, lost his match against Li-Wei Su of Chinese Taipei in the first round with a competitive score of 5-3.
Men's under 67 kg Santosh Shrestha lost to Kazakhstan player Yarkinvek Beturev with a margin of 3-1. He defeated Hutagol Gordilindo of Indonesia in the first match. Men's singles competitor Sonim Manandhar also lost in the first match. He lost the match against Macau's Hau Man Fong. Sonim scored 36.60 while Hau scored 39.30 and traveled to the next stage.
Tenzing Sherpa, a competitor in the men's weight group above 84 kg, also reached the front of the medal. He lost the second match of the repechage against Japan's Fumiya Yoshimura.
