Nepal Olympians Association has started the School to Olympics program this year as well. About 4 years ago, the school Olympic program started from Surkhet in Karnali.
The association organized the School to Olympics program on Friday in the presence of Olympians and other international athletes at the Nepal Police School at Sanga in Kavrepalanchok with the support of Bagmati Province Youth and Sports Ministry, Provincial Sports Development Council. Santoshi Shrestha of Olympian Athletics, Manita Shrestha of Judo, Prince Dahal of Badminton and National Player of Volleyball Usha Bhandari shared their experiences with the police school students about their sports journey.
Prince, who also studied at the same police school, said that he started playing badminton under the influence of his father. He also recalled the days when he played badminton when he was in police school. Usha said that although she started volleyball at her father's expense, she later started enjoying it. She said that even if the game affects the studies, if it can be managed, both can be brought together. Manita said that while living in the hostel, she gradually got attracted to judo and reached the Olympics while fulfilling her mentor's dream.
Santoshi recalled that she started playing at the age of 12 and said that success can only be achieved after the ability to bear pain. On the question of how police school students can combine studies and sports, Santoshi said, "It is appropriate to prepare by prioritizing sports and studies according to time."
The police participated in the program for their students who were training in various sports. They excitedly posed questions to the players. Karate, Taekwondo, Judo and Gymnastics players of the school presented demonstrations and dances. Olympians association president Deepak Bisht, general secretary Rajendra Bhandari, secretary Devu Thapa, in-charge of the school, principal were present in the program.
On the same occasion, the association also handed over the sports materials of various games to the principal of the school. The School to Olympics program started from Surkhet in March 2078 with the slogan 'Service to Society: Service to Olympian' has been organized in 16 places in different districts of Sudurpaschim, Karnali, Lumbini, Gandaki, Bagmati and Koshi. This is the second time that School Olympics are organized at Police School.
