The controversy within the Nepal Cricket Association (CAN) has come to the surface. CAN President Chatur Bahadur Chand and Secretary Paras Khadka have cut different letters on the association's letter head on Friday night regarding the special general meeting of the Lumbini Provincial Cricket Association.
A special general meeting of the Lumbini Provincial Cricket Association has been called on Saturday regarding the motion of no confidence against the provincial president Sanjay Gurung. After the signature of 31 of the 40 general assembly members under the province, the general assembly was convened. In opposition to that, the provincial chairman Gurung submitted a petition to the National Sports Council (Rakhep) to stop the entire process of motion of no confidence and review the decision.
In reply, Rakhep directed that, based on the application received on 30th of May, the statement of facts and how the regulations of the Provincial Cricket Association were approved within 7 days from the date of receipt of the letter and to postpone the annual general meeting of the Lumbini Provincial Cricket Association until the matter is resolved.
CAN Secretary Khadka has written a letter in the name of Lumbini Pradesh Cricket Association at 7 pm on Friday night and asked to stop the special general meeting based on the instructions of Rakhap. On the other hand, Chairman Chand has written a letter in the name of the vice president of Lumbini State Cricket Association and instructed to hold a special general meeting according to the statute of CAN and Provincial Cricket Association Regulations 2081.
Provincial President Gurung has said that he will be absent from the General Assembly. In a conversation with Kantipur, Gurung said that there was no reason for him to go to the general meeting when Rakhep had asked to stop the special general meeting and CAN secretary Paras Khadka had also continued it.
On March 22, 2081, Vice President of Lumbini Provincial Cricket Association Vinayraj Bhandari, sitting as the proposer, registered a motion of no confidence in Gurung with the signatures of 31 of the 40 general assembly members and informed CAN about this.
