The fifth edition of the Annapurna Marathon, which will be organized on the occasion of climbing the Annapurna Himal, will be held on May 20. The Annapurna Century Tourism Committee, the organizer of the 42.195 km distance marathon, announced on Friday through a press conference in Pokhara that the climbing day will be held on June 3 i.e. May 20.
Committee Chairman Lalit Gurung informed that the marathon will start from the Annapurna base camp (4130 meters). The marathon will end after reaching the playground (1940 meters) of Shri Meshram Barah Mavi at Ghandruk via Machhapuchhre base camp, Bagar, Deurali, Hinku Cave, Himalaya, Dobhan, Bumbo, Sinuwa, Bhanuwa, Chomrong, Toulu, Ghurjung, Chuinle, Melanche, Komrodanda, Kimrongkhola, Uri.
The first, second and third male and female runners will be awarded 1 lakh 50 thousand, 1 lakh and 75 thousand rupees respectively, medals and certificates. A fee of Rs 7,000 has been fixed to participate in the marathon.
President Gurung said that runners from Annapurna rural municipality, Gandaki province, foreign runners and those participating in 3 consecutive editions will receive special prizes. The 75th place finisher will receive the Diamond Jubilee Award. This award is going to be given on the occasion of 75 years of Annapurna mountain climbing.
runners can register their name till May 15. Committee secretary Mikas Gurung said that the participating runners should reach the Annapurna base camp on May 18. He said that 60 people including 10 foreigners have registered to participate in the marathon. In addition to checkpoints at various places, the organizers are preparing to monitor the runners through GPS this year.
