Birtamod United Club Jhapa has reached the semi-finals of the 12th edition of the Rara Gold Cup football tournament. In the Wednesday match of the tournament organized by Rara Football Club, which is being held at Rajarani in Choubise Rural Municipality of Dhankuta, Birtamod defeated the former winner Sahlesh Football Club of Siraha by 2-1 goal difference in penalty shootout.
After there was no goal from either team at the Punya Mavi stadium, the game was pushed straight to the penalty shootout, where Birtamod's Ashish Chapagain and Vikram Tamang and Sahlesh's Aditya Shakya scored.
Birtamod United's goalkeeper Abhishek Baral performed well and saved two penalties from the opponent. Birtamod won. Abhishek, who was also selected as player of the match, received a cash prize of 7,500.
Birthamod, who was defeated by Sahless in the 11th edition, took revenge this time. On Thursday, there will be a match between A Division League winners Church Boys United Club Kathmandu and Bagmati Youth Club Sarlahi. The winner of the competition, which will be held till June 4, will receive a cash prize of Rs 7 lakh and the runner-up will receive a trophy medal, cup and certificate along with Rs 3 lakh. Mani Chemjong, the coordinator of the organizing committee informed that the best players of each category will receive 10,000 cash each.
