The team holding the pace for European Champions League qualification is Newcastle United. For this he beat top five rivals Chelsea in a crucial game. Trent Alexander-Arnold also heard the frustration of the club's supporters after his decision to leave the champions Liverpool. Southampton, meanwhile, avoided a record they would be proud of. These were the three standout moments from this weekend's English Premier League games.

Newcastle's strong claim

After beating Chelsea 2-0 at St James' Park, Newcastle are almost certain to play in the Champions League next season. But coach Eddie Howe is not yet convinced and warns his players not to get complacent. Howe's team is currently third in the points table. Now, three points in the last two league games will be enough for him to finish in the top five. On top of that, they have a goal difference advantage over fifth-placed Chelsea.

Chelsea and sixth-placed Aston Villa are both three points behind Newcastle. The reason why Howe is still not convinced is that his next two games at Newcastle. Next up are their opponents, second-placed Arsenal. Then on the last day they have to play against Everton. The League Cup champions will have the chance to qualify for the Champions League for the second time in three seasons, with the likes of Manchester City and Nottingham Forest looking to disrupt them.

That's why Howe said, "We have two more games to play." There are still many ups and downs in the league. Now we have to focus on the game against Arsenal. This game is definitely not going to be easy. The position of all the teams in front of us and behind us is like this. So we're still not sure.

Arnold's tough

Coach Arne Slott will have no doubts about playing Trent Alexander-Arnold in the last two games of the league. But the Liverpool fans were not happy with him in the game against Arsenal at Anfield. Those supporters expressed their anger towards him. Arnold came on as a substitute against Arsenal. He is leaving the club at the end of this season. He is expected to go to Real Madrid.

Liverpool's last two games are against Brighton and Crystal Palace. Slott has indicated his intention to play Arnold in both of these games. "I believe in winning in football and I think you can win with Arnold. "I was signed by the club to win," says Slott. Arnold also won the league twice and the Champions League once with Liverpool. After that game, he looked shocked.

Southampton's relief

After the game against Manchester City ended in a goalless draw, relief was felt throughout St. Mary's and the reason for this was that no one would call this team the worst in Premier League history. The team is at the bottom of the points table and has been relegated. But after holding City to a draw, Southampton has 12 points. In 2007–2008, Derby were relegated with 11 points, the club's worst ever performance.

The club's executive coach, Simon Rusk, says, 'I know how much the supporters were afraid that the history of that poor performance would be linked to Southampton. But my job was to focus on the performance of the team. Now we are feeling better. At least I felt relieved when the referee blew the whistle to finish the game.'
