The Nepali team has become the champion in the first South Asian Judo Development Championship. Nepalese athletes won 4 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze medals in the championship held in Thimphu, Bhutan.
In the individual competition, the Nepal team was the first. Nepalese players will compete in the mixed team event on Sunday. There are 8 teams from 4 South Asian countries in the tournament. Athletes from the Multi-Purpose Martial Art Center (MMAC) from Nepal participated.
According to the head coach of MMAC, Dharmakumar Shrestha, Srastha Napit won double gold. She won the women's under 57 kg gold. She won another gold in the open weight group. There was a provision that competitors playing in 57 kg could also play in open weight.
Men's under 36 kg Simon Tamang and under 40 kg Sadin Tamang won gold. Janeisha Waiba won silver in women's under 36 kg and Juvin Maharjan won bronze in men's under 50 kg.
