Koshi and Gandaki province have won the first victory in the national men's and women's hockey tournament. Koshi and Gandaki won in men's and women's in Chaisal stadium in Lalitpur on Thursday. Koshi under the captaincy of Deepak Khatiwada got a 5-3 victory over Madhesh Pradesh.
Aryan Chaudhary and Sudeep Chaudhary scored 1-1 goals while Laxman Samaria scored a hat-trick from Koshi. Rupesh Kumar Rai scored two goals and Ajay Kumar Sah scored one goal from Madhesh under the captaincy of Mankeshar Sah. Laxman became the player of the match. He got a prize of Rs. Despite taking the lead in the game, Madhesh faced defeat because they could not protect it.
Group 'A' Koshi won the first match and collected 3 points. In this group of four teams, Tribhuvan Army has also won one. On the men's side, the competition is being conducted on the basis of Leaguecom knockout. Army and Gandaki along with Madhesh and Koshi provinces are in group 'A'. Army defeated Gandaki 3-0.
Group 'B' has Nepal Police Club, Karnali Province, APF and Bagmati Province. APF is a new team. APF played a goalless draw against Bagmati in their debut match.
On Thursday, Gandaki defeated Bagmati Pradesh by 2-1 under the captaincy of Sonu Baral. Gandaki's Mayuri Rai and Geeta Punmagar scored the goals. Bagmati was captained by Sanjita Shrestha. She scored one goal. Mayuri was the player of the match.
National Sports Council (Rakhep) member secretary Tanklal Ghising and board member Prakash Kusari inaugurated the women's games on Thursday. Among women, Army, Gandaki, Madhesh and Bagmati provinces are participating. After the round robin league, the top two teams will compete for the title.
