The first Lions Cup International Invitational Men's Volleyball Tournament has started in Pokhara. Organized by Lions International District 325M Nepal, the competition started on Thursday at the multi-purpose covered hall at Pokhara Rangshala. Pokhara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Dhanraj Acharya inaugurated the competition.

The Iranian volleyball team of Iran has started victoriously in the opening match. In the first match under Group 'A' of the tournament, the Iranian team defeated the Armed Police Force (APF) by a set of 3-1. The Iranian team won the first set 25-20 in their favor and lost in the second set. In the competitive second set, APF defeated the Iranian team 31-29. APF won the second set by scoring 2 consecutive points when it was 29-29. The Iranian team defeated APF 25-23 in the third set and 25-19 in the fourth set. 

The second match of the tournament continues between the Indian team and the Nepal Police Club under Group 'B'. The 6 teams participating in the competition have been divided into two groups. Group A consists of Irani team, APF and Gandaki Province. Group 'B' has Indian team, Tribhuvan Army Club and Nepal Police Club. The top two teams from both groups will play the semi-finals.  The

final match will be held on May 22. The winner of the competition will get a trophy, medal and certificate along with Rs. The third place team will get a trophy, medal and certificate along with 1 lakh 44 thousand 444 rupees. 

District Governor Chandi Prasad Aryal informed that 14 thousand 444 rupees will be given to the best player and 8 thousand 444 rupees to the best player. This volleyball tournament is the first international level indoor tournament held in Pokhara.
