Home team Koshi Pradesh suffered their first defeat in the 3rd Manmohan Memorial ODI National Cricket Tournament. Koshi, who won against the departmental team Nepal Police Club, lost by 97 runs against the Indian team Assam Club on Wednesday.

With the defeat in this match, Koshi's chances of reaching the final from Group B have become weak. The visiting team Assam won the toss at the Girija Prasad Koirala Cricket Stadium in Baijnathpur, Biratnagar and scored 209 runs in 47.3 overs.

Captain Gokul Sharma scored the highest 78 runs. He hit 2 sixes and 7 fours in 99 balls. Arun Sonar scored 51, Raj Vishwa scored 24, Kevin Christopher scored 15 and Amit Sinha scored 12. Koshi's Prem Kamat took 4 wickets, Vipin Kumar Mahato and Bhupal Luintel took 2 wickets each.

Chasing a target of 210 runs, Koshy was reduced to 112 runs in 37.2 overs. Ais Bhattarai and Bipin Kumar scored 15 each while Chirag Shah scored 11 runs. Player of the match Gokul Sharma and Tapan Kumar Sharma took 3 each and Raj Vishwa took 2 wickets.

Assam will face Nepal Police Club on Thursday. By winning this match, Assam will confirm the title clash with Army. In case of defeat, all three teams will have to rely on the run rate.
