Kolkata Knight Riders have maintained their chances of reaching the playoffs of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Kolkata defeated Delhi Capitals by 14 runs at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium on Tuesday.

After losing the toss, Kolkata lost 9 wickets and scored 204 runs in the scheduled 20 overs. In reply, Delhi lost 9 wickets and scored only 190 runs. This is Delhi's third defeat in 4 matches at home. Delhi's one win at home was also in the Super Over against Rajasthan Royals.

Defending champion Kolkata's chances of reaching the playoffs have been revived after this victory. Royal Challengers Bangalore are at the top with 14 points. Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Titans and Delhi have 12 points each, Punjab Kings 11 points, Lucknow Super Giants 10 points and Kolkata 9 points respectively are in the second to seventh position. The top four teams qualify for the playoffs. Rajasthan, Sunriders Hyderabad are on the bottom three positions with 6 points and Chennai Super Kings with 4 points.

Angkrish Raghuvanshi from Kolkata who batted first scored 44 runs in 32 balls. He hit 3 fours and 2 sixes. He shared a partnership of 63 runs for the fifth wicket with Rinku Singh. Rinku hit 3 fours and 1 six off 25 balls. Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Sunil Narine put on 48 runs in 3 overs to get Kolkata off to a good start. Gurbaz scored 26 off 12 balls with 5 fours and 1 six and Narine scored 27 runs off 16 balls with 2 fours and a six.

Captain Ajinkya Rahane scored 26 runs off 14 balls with 4 fours and 1 six. Vankatesh Iyer was out for 7 runs. Andre Russell was dismissed for 17 runs off 9 balls with 2 fours and 1 six. From Delhi, Mitchell Starc took 3 wickets for 43 runs in 4 overs. Captain Akshar Patel took 27 wickets in 4 overs and Vipraj Nigam took 2-2 wickets with 41 runs in 4 overs. 

Faf du Plessis scored 62 runs in 45 balls but Delhi could not reach the target. Abhishek Porel 4, Karun Nair 15 and KL Rahul 7 were dismissed but Du Plessis hit 7 fours and 2 sixes. Delhi looked in a strong position when he added 76 runs for the fourth wicket with captain Patel. Patel hit 4 fours and 3 sixes in 23 balls. 

After Tristan Stubbs 1 and Ashutosh Sharma were dismissed for 7 runs, Vipraj played an aggressive innings and brought the team closer to victory. Vipraj scored 38 runs off 19 balls by hitting 5 fours and 2 sixes. Narine took 3 wickets from Kolkata. Player of the match he spent 29 runs in 4 overs. Varun Chakraborty took 2 wickets and Kusuk Roy, Vaibhav Arora and Russell took 1 wicket each.
