Tribhuvan Army Club has entered the finals of the third edition of the Manmohan Memorial One Day National Cricket Tournament by winning two consecutive matches.
After defeating APF Club of Armed Police Force by 2 wickets in the opening match, Army defeated Bagmati Province by 5 wickets in the last match of the league stage on Monday. With this victory, the former winner Army is at the top of Group 'A' and is close to the title, while APF and Bagmati are out of the competition.
Bagmati lost the toss and batted first at the Girija Prasad Koirala Cricket Stadium in Baijnathpur, Biratnagar. For Bagmati, Sachin Sukkar scored 34 runs, Prateek Shrestha scored 15 runs and Adil Khan scored 10 runs.
As other batters could not score runs in double figures, Bagmati could only score modest totals. On the bowling side, Army's Naren Saud alone took 5 wickets while Durgesh Gupta took 2 wickets. In reply, Army easily achieved the small target of 97 runs, losing 5 wickets in 17.3 overs. Nischal Chhetri scored the highest 46 runs for Army. While Himanshu Dutt scored 18 runs, Vinod Bhandari and Jitendra Singh Thakuri could only add 6 runs each.
Group 'B' matches will start from Tuesday under the ongoing competition organized by MM Cup Foundation Sunsari. In the first match of group 'B', home team Koshi Pradesh will face Nepal Police Club on Tuesday. The winner of the final match to be held on May 20 will get four lakh rupees in cash and the runner-up will get two lakh rupees and a trophy.
