Nepal has achieved historic success in the ongoing 21st World Kempo Championship in Caldas da Renha, Portugal.
Nepal Kempo Khukuri Federation player Vipesh Thapa won the bronze medal on the third day of the competition. Fifth Dan coach and player Thapa won a medal for Nepal from the World Kempo Championship. This medal is the first in Nepali Kempo sports history. According to Baldev Timalsina, chief advisor of the Federation, this achievement has established the identity of Nepali Kempo at the international level.
Nepal has participated in the championship for the second time. Nepal, which returned without a medal in the first participation, got success this year through Thapa's excellent performance. Pavel Shah, the president of the Federation, said that the achievement of Vipesh is a milestone in the history of Kempo sports.
Vipesh, a permanent resident of Kavre, is a leading trainer of Nepali Kempo sports. He has represented Nepal in the South Asian tournament before. It is believed that this medal of his international level will attract Nepalese youth towards the sport of Kempo.
