Youth and Sports Minister of Bagmati Province, Meenkrishna Maharjan, has expressed his anger that the budget ceiling for the next financial year has been reduced.
While inaugurating the sports journalism training organized by the Provincial Sports Development Council in Hetaunda from Tuesday, Minister Maharjan expressed anger that the provincial government has reduced the budget of the sports sector in the coming year compared to the current financial year. He said, "In the current fiscal year, our ministry has received a budget ceiling of 61 million rupees, which is 74 million rupees. In this way, the development of sports is not possible.
He commented that when asking for a budget for sports, the finance minister behaves as if he should give it from his own pocket. He claimed that the state did not understand the importance of sports and that the players were forced to migrate abroad.
He complained that even the provincial government did not give much importance to the sports sector. He said, 'This is why the players are forced to go abroad.' He mentioned that 80 percent of the players in the national team of every game are from Bagmati province.
Maharjan says that the Chief Minister of Bagmati Province is 'positive' towards sports. He insisted that if the Chief Minister was not positive, there would be no sports activities in Bagmati Province. In the
program, Deepak Lama, member secretary of Bagmati Province Sports Development Council, opined that although the country has gone to federalism, federalism is yet to come in sports. He said that there is a problem because it is not clear who will look after which structure.
Informing that a capacity building program has been organized for sports journalists in Bagmati Province, he expressed his belief that it will help sports journalists. 50 journalists from 13 districts of Bagmati province are present in the training.
