The Chief Minister of Karnali Province Yamlal Kandel has said that the 10th National Sports Competition has been postponed because of the federal government and not the provincial government. In a meeting with sports associations and coaches on Friday, Chief Minister Kandel clarified that the state government had no involvement in the postponement of the competition.
The 10th National Sports Competition was scheduled to be held in Karnali from 3rd to 10th May. Chief Minister Kandel said that he has suggested to the Federal Sports Ministry to work so that the match is ensured even if the date of the competition is moved several times. Chief Minister Kandel also informed that he has experienced the problem of the Ministry of Sports, which is confused about the necessary preparations for the competition.
Lately, the Chief Minister Kandel had been expressing his displeasure despite the establishment of a secretariat in Surkhet for the competition, but apparently there was no work. Chief Minister Kandel complained that although the sports competition will be held in Karnali, the main organizer of the event is the federal government, but the request made to the province for support in infrastructure has not been heeded. He said, "The federal government, which spent millions on infrastructure for the national sports competition organized in the past, should have also invested in the infrastructure to be built in Karnali province, but there was no investment in the infrastructure."
In another context, Chief Minister Kandel said that there would be no problem for payment on the day the state stadium was handed over. "If the work is completed and handed over, the provincial government is ready to give the remaining amount, we have no problem," he said. He also said that the appointments to the vacant State Sports Development Committee and District Sports Development Committee will be discussed and finalized soon.
Chief Minister Kandel also told the sports officials not to stop the sports activities even though there is no state sports and as soon as the date of the competition is announced, necessary arrangements will be made for the players who are in closed training. He directed the sports coaches to prepare to win double digit medals.
