Despite Mahendra Singh Dhoni's return to the captaincy role, Chennai Super Kings' fortunes in Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket have not changed. The team lost by 8 wickets against Kolkata Knight Riders on Friday. Five-time winners Kolkata have lost 5 matches in a row.

After losing the toss, Chennai came into bat and could only make a score of 103-9 in the scheduled 20 overs. Chennai needed to beat their IPL low score of 79 runs. Rachin Ravindra 4, Devon Conway 12, Rahul Tripathi 16 and Vijay Shankar scored 29 runs. Vijay played 21 balls and hit 2 fours and 1 six.

After the regular captain Rituraj Gaikwad was injured and left the IPL, Dhoni, who took the leadership responsibility, got out in 1 run. Shivam Duve remained unbeaten on 31 runs off 29 balls with 3 fours. Sunil Narine took 3 wickets from Kolkata. He spent only 13 runs in 4 overs. Harshit Rana took 16 in 4 overs and Varun Chakraborty took 2-2 with 22 runs in 4 overs and Vaibhav Arora and Moeen Ali took 1 each.

Kolkata completed the target by scoring 107 runs in 10.1 overs. This is Chennai's biggest defeat in the IPL in terms of overs remaining. Player of the match Narine scored 44 runs off 18 balls with 2 fours and 5 sixes. His opening pair Quinton de Kock was dismissed for 21 runs off 16 balls with 3 fours. Captain Ajinkya

Rahane scored 20 off 17 balls and Rinku Singh scored an unbeaten 15 off 12 balls to give Kolkata their third win in the sixth match.
