Dang, Kapilvastu, Rupandehi and Gulmi have won the Lumbini state level T-20 cricket tournament. Organized by the Lumbini State Sports Council and managed by the Dang District Cricket Association, the matches have started simultaneously at the Deukhari International Cricket Stadium in Lamhi and the Ghorahi Cricket Stadium in Ghorahi from Monday.
As part of the first day's matches, Dang won impressively against Rolpa in the first match at Ghorahi Cricket Stadium, while Kapilvastu won easily by 9 wickets against Pyuthan in the second match.
In the first match at Deukhuri International Cricket Stadium in Lamhi, Rupandehi won by 84 runs against Nawalparasi, while Gulmi registered a 5-wicket win against Arghakhanchi in the second match. With the win, all four teams have entered the quarter finals of the competition.
Ghorahi-17 In the first match at the Ghorahi Cricket Stadium in Gulria, Rolpa reached the quarter-finals by scoring 27 runs without losing a wicket in 4.2 overs. For Dang, captain Sushantsingh Thapa scored 13 runs in 13 balls with 3 fours and Akash Pandey added 14 runs in 13 balls with 3 fours to give an easy victory.
Rolpa, who won the toss and batted first, gave a forgettable performance. Durgesh Puri added the most 13 runs for Rolpa, who lost all wickets in 10.4 overs and scored a total of 25 runs. Akash Gurung scored 2 runs and Akram Ali scored 2 runs. Other players could not open an account. 9 players of Rolpa were bowled out.
Dang's spinners Shubham Khanal and Kishan Bharti played deadly bowling to destroy Rolpa's batting lineup. Shubham Khanal bowled 1.4 overs and took 3 wickets at the cost of 2 runs and got one run out.
Kishan Bharti bowled 2 overs and took 3 wickets at the cost of 4 runs. Bir Bahadur Gharti took 1 wicket with 2 maiden overs for Dang. Dinesh Bohra took 1 wicket by giving 3 runs with 1 maiden in 2 overs while Karan GM took 1 wicket by giving 1 run in 1 over. Dang's Shubham Khanal, who played an important role in getting Rolpa all out at low runs by bowling hard, became the player of the match.
Kapilvastu won easily by 9 wickets against Pyuthan in another match at Ghorahi ground. Kapilvastu completed the normal target of 57 runs given by Pyuthan with the loss of 1 wicket in 5.3 overs. Ramzan Ali Dhunia and Raunak Srivastava played the winning innings for Kapilvastu.
Pawan Kumar Gupta scored two runs in five balls and was bowled out by Vinod Pandey, but Ramzan Ali Dhunia scored 27 unbeaten runs in 16 balls with five fours while Raunak Srivastava also scored 23 unbeaten runs in 12 balls with four fours to give Kapilvastu an easy 9 wicket win. Vinod Pandey of Pyuthan took 1 wicket. Pyuthan, who won the toss and batted first, scored 56 runs in 17.1 overs losing all wickets. While playing with the loss of 4 wickets while scoring 43 runs, Pyuthan's batsmen could not handle it and were bowled out after adding 13 more runs. Rajkumar Bista added 14 runs for Pyuthan. Pritam Shrestha and Suchit Mahtara added 8-8 runs each while Surveer Malla scored 7 runs.
Govind Tharu took 4 wickets in four overs with 1 maiden at the expense of 7 runs to cover Pyuthan cheaply. Similarly, Muhammad Hussain, Mahesh Bhar, Shiv Kunwar, Akash Tripathi and Ramesh Kumar Pathak took 1 wicket each. Govind Tharu, who took 4 important wickets to give victory to Kapilvastu, became the player of the match.
In the first match in Lamhi, Rupandehi won by 84 runs against Nawalparasi. Chasing a winning target of 147 runs, Nawalparasi lost all wickets in 17.4 overs and was reduced to 62 runs. Rupandehi has entered the quarter-finals with a comfortable victory of 84 runs.
Omkar Yadav scored the most 31 runs for Nawalparasi. Omkar added 21 runs in 22 balls with the help of 2 sixes and 2 boundaries and was bowled out by Viparshan KC. Apart from Dilip Kurmi of Nawalparasi who added 11 runs, no other player could add double digit runs. Manish Tiwari scored 5 runs, Hilson Pandey and Shishir Thapa scored 4 runs each.
Ramesh Kurmi of Rupandehi took important four wickets to cover Nawalparasi cheaply. He took 4 wickets for 8 runs in four overs. Viparshan KC gave away 12 runs in 3 overs and took 2 wickets while Krishna Karki took 2 wickets in 3.4 overs. Ajay Chauhan gave away 17 runs in 4 overs and took 1 wicket.
Rupandehi, who batted first after losing the toss, scored 146 runs with the help of Prajwal Thapa's fifty. Prajwal added 50 runs in 37 balls with the help of 1 six and 6 fours and was cut and bowled by Iklaq Ahmed Warsi. Manish Thapa scored 16 runs in 21 balls with 1 four, Suman Pandey added 15 runs in 13 balls with 2 fours. Ajay Chauhan and captain Dev Khanal added 12 runs each. When Mrinal Gurung returned to the pavilion after scoring 10 runs, other players could not score double-digit runs.
For Nawalparasi, Iklaq Ahmed Warsi took 2 wickets for 22 runs in 4 overs. Likewise, Dilip Kurmi, Jitendra Kewat Sahni, Shishir Thapa, Yaman Bhandari took 1 wicket each. Ramesh Kurmi of Rupandehi was the player of the match.
Gulmi won by 5 wickets against Arghakhanchi in the second match in Lamhi. Gulmi achieved the medium target of 84 runs given by Arghakhanchi in 15.2 overs with the loss of five wickets.
For Gulmi, Samrat Thapa scored an unbeaten 20 runs off 29 balls with 2 fours. Similarly, Laxman Ghimire remained unbeaten on 5 runs while Vikram Gautam scored 17 runs and was bowled by Supreme Goldsmith. Sangam Neupane scored 11 runs, Tridev Karki scored 10 runs and Vivek Bhandari scored 8 runs.
Manoj Bhusal of Arghakhanchi took 3 wickets while Baburam Thapa and Supreme Sunar took 1 wicket each. Earlier, Arghakhanchi lost the toss and scored 83 runs in 17.2 overs losing all wickets. For Arghakhanchi, opener Vishel Bhat scored the highest 36 runs. He faced 40 balls and was run out after scoring 36 runs with the help of 3 fours. Roshan Ghimire added 13 in 30 balls and was bowled by Tridev Karki. Other players could not score runs in double figures.
Ramchandra Tandon of Gulmi bowled four overs to stop Arghakhanchi at a medium target and took 6 wickets with a total of 9 runs. Tridev Karki, Suraj Saru and Pradeep Bhandari took 1 wicket each. Ramchandra Tandon became the player of the match by taking 6 wickets which set the basis of victory for Gulmi. Semi-final matches will be held on Tuesday under the competition.
Players from 11 districts have come to Dang to play the tournament, except for Rukumpoorwa from Lumbini. President of Dang District Cricket Association Pradeep Mazgaiya said that it is possible to organize the tournament easily due to the availability of adequate cricket infrastructure and technical manpower in the district.
Thirandaz Gautam, Member-Secretary of Lumbini Province Sports Council, said that the tournament which will run till March 28, along with the development of the players' abilities, will determine the basis for the selection of players for the 10th National Sports Tournament to be held in May. The competition was inaugurated by Minister of Industry, Tourism and Transport of Lumbini Province, Prachanda Vikram Neupane. Mentioning that there is good potential for cricket in Nepal recently, he said that the government has paid attention to making sports activities sustainable along with infrastructure development for its development.
