KP Oli Cup Cricket: Hetaunda and Kathmandu win

Hetaunda Sports Academy and CEC Kathmandu have won the second edition of KP Oli Cup T-20 national open men's cricket tournament in Pokhara. Hetaunda defeated Pokhara Mahanagara Cricket Club and Kathmandu defeated Syangja Cricket Club in the match between Group 'A' teams at Pokhara Rangshala Cricket Ground on Sunday.

Chasing the usual target of 72 runs in the first match, Hetaunda defeated Pokhara by 4 wickets. Hetaunda scored 76 runs after losing 6 wickets in 12 overs. For Hetaunda, opener Gaurav Khadka scored 34 runs off 32 balls with 4 fours. Ramnaresh Giri remained not out for 14 runs and Akhilesh Thakur for 8 runs. Suman Sunar 6, Vishal Phuyal 3, Saksham Bastakoti were out for 4 runs. Shubh Kanshakar and Yubin Budhathoki could not score runs. For Pokhara, Subas Bastola and Anjan KC took 2/2 wickets each, Samir Bhujel and Marcel Baral took 1/1 wickets each.

After winning the toss, Pokhara chose to bat and were all out in 16 overs and 5 balls. Sumit Shrestha scored the most 26 runs for Pokhara. He played 39 balls and hit 3 fours. Pramod Bastola added 22 runs and opener Deepak Baral added 14 runs. Other batsmen could not score double figures. Dheeraj Adhikari 2, Kabin Sapkota, Marsal Baral and Subas Bastola were dismissed with 1 run each. Marshall and Kabin were run out. Pokhara's Bishnu Prasad Sharma, Sahil Paudel and Anjan KC could not score runs. For Hetaunda, Asim Shrestha and Akhilesh Thakur took 3/3 each and MP Ali Mansuri took 2 wickets. Hetaunda's Asim was declared the player of the match. 

KP Oli Cup Cricket: Hetaunda and Kathmandu win In the second match, Kathmandu won by 7 wickets against Syangja. With a target of 127 runs, Kathmandu completed the target by losing 3 wickets in 14 overs. Dipendra Rawat scored the highest 49 runs for Kathmandu. He hit 5 fours and 2 sixes in 42 balls. Opener Rit Gautam scored 38 runs off 23 balls. He hit 6 fours and a six. Prithu Baskota remained not out for 21 and Arjun Gharti for 7 runs. Ashwani Rana took 2 wickets and Kiran Bhattarai took 1 wicket for Syangja. 

Syangja started batting after winning the toss and scored 126 runs after losing 7 wickets in 20 overs. Opener Karan Pangeni was dismissed for 14 runs. Ishwar Kshetri contributed the most with 34 runs. He hit 4 fours and 2 sixes in 24 balls. Kiran Bhattarai remained not out for 15 and Laxman Dumre for 11 runs. Vishal Koirala 17, Sujan Gautam 11, Milan Chhetri 3, Ashwani Rana 2 and Sandeep Khatri Chhetri were dismissed for 1 run. Dipendra Rawat of Kathmandu took the most 4 wickets. Dipendra, who spent 11 runs with a maiden in 4 overs, became the player of the match. Kathmandu's Manoj Yadav, Yunishvikram Singh and Surya Tamang took 1/1 wicket each. 

After winning two matches in a row, Kathmandu has strengthened its semi-final chances by staying at the top position. Kathmandu, which is in the top position with 4 points, will play against Pokhara of Group A in the first match on Monday. If they lose to Pokhara, Hetaunda and Syangja will also have a chance to enter the previous stage. The second match of the third day of the tournament will be between Hetaunda Sports Academy and Syangja Cricket Club. Hetaunda and Syangja are second and third in the points table after winning one match each. Having lost in both games, the points of the Pokhara group are at the bottom of the table. 

16 teams are participating in the competition that will last until May 3. The winner of the competition will get a trophy, medal and certificate along with Rs. 10 lakh, runner-up will get Rs. The player of the match gets a trophy award with 5000 rupees. Man of the series has been given a trophy with 30,000 rupees, best bowler and best batsman with 20,000 rupees each.
