The Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) celebrated the International Day of Sports for Development and Peace by lighting a lamp at the World Stupa of Swayambhu, a symbol of world peace, on Sunday. NOC has been celebrating International Day of Sports for Development and Peace every year in Lumbini for the last few years.

President of NOC Jeevanram Shrestha said that every year this program has been organized in Lumbini, but this year, as it was organized before Peace Marathon and International Yoga Day in Lumbini, this time, this lamp lighting program was held in front of the Buddha Stupa. The lamp was lit by making five rings of the Olympic Games representing the five continents.

The NOC President Shrestha also informed that this program is being celebrated in the world with the resolution of sports for development and peace through sports at the call of the United Nations on the proposal of the International Olympic Committee (ICC). "Nepal is the country of Buddha's birth, and since Buddha gave the message of peace to the world, we have organized this program in front of the World Stupa of Swayambhu," says President Shrestha. On that occasion, he informed that the society can be transformed and developed through sports, peace can be made sustainable and understanding can be increased by remembering the purpose and role of sports and organized this event.

The Sports for Development and Peace International Day program was attended by the NOC family as well as the president and officers of the national association, players, public representatives, local clubs and the public.
