Erika Gurung of Nepal has won the gold medal in the Australian Open Karate Championship held in Sydney, Australia. In the opening competition on Friday, Erica won the gold medal in the weight group above 68 kg.

Kishore Bhattarai, Treasurer of Nepal Karate Federation, said that the success of Erica, who was named Himalayan Warrior, was very big. According to him, the ACF annual competition in Uzbekistan after 2 months is still important for Erica. 

Erica, who won the silver medal in the Asian Games held in China two years ago, also won the silver in the Asian Championship.  

Santosh Shrestha in 67 kg Muni, Savina Shrestha in 61 kg Muni, Pushpaka Lama in 55 kg Muni and Budha Magar in 50 kg Muni have won bronze medals.  Among the Nepali athletes who competed from Australia in the

competition, Vijay Shrestha won silver in under 60 kg, Diwas Shrestha won over 84 kg and Sonam Lama won bronze in under 60 kg.  A team of 9 people including five players from Nepal went to Sydney, Australia to participate in the

competition.
