In the first semi-final match of the 17th edition of Sahid Bhimnarayan Gold Cup held in Dhankuta on Thursday, Namobuddha Football Club Saptari defeated the defending champion Birtamod United Club Jhapa and entered the finals.
In a sensational match at the lower end of Dhankuta Bazar, Namobuddha won easily by 3-1 to reach the finals. Vivek Rai opened the scoring for Namobuddha in the 14th minute of the first half. Namobuddha's team captain Sirjanraj Gautam's personal goal was decisive for the team's victory. He scored in the 20th minute of the first half and in the 90th minute of the final period. After that, the opposition Birtamod team remained under pressure.
Birtamod's team captain Gilson Kandangwa scored 1 goal in the 26th minute of the first half. Which became only a consolation goal for the former winning team. In a very competitive game, both teams missed the chance to score more than half a dozen excellent goals. Although both teams were balanced in the first half, Namobuddha dominated most of the game after the interval.
Earlier, Namobuddha entered the semi-finals by defeating the host Shahid Bhimnarayan Smriti Team Dhankuta. Similarly, Birtamod reached the semi-finals by defeating Chitlang Football Club Kathmandu.

The winner of Friday's match and Namobuddha Saptari will meet in the final next Saturday. The winner of the competition will receive a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh and the runner-up will receive a trophy medal, cup and certificate along with Rs 250,000. Similarly, the highest scorer, man of the match and the best player will also get cash prizes.
