Ramesh Tawahang (Limbu) of Taplejung has won first place in the marathon competition organized in Phalelung.

In the competition held on Saturday, he beat 45 competitors and covered the prescribed distance of 44 kilometers in 3 hours 22 minutes 58 seconds.

Similarly, Vishal Rai of Fidim-13 of Panchthar came second and Rajan Meyongwa (Limbu) of Tribhuvan Army Club came third. Vishal completed the prescribed distance in 3 hours 29 minutes and Rajan in 3 hours 38 minutes 30 seconds.

With the slogan 'Sports for health, change for the nation', Pariwartan Sangh Phalelung has organized a 44 km long marathon.

This race is the longest distance and has the highest prize money among those organized in the district. In the competition, the first, second and third place have won 55 thousand 555, 27 thousand 227 and 12 thousand 212 rupees respectively.  The

race started from Phalelung-3 Namluwa Bhanjyang which is 2 thousand 200 meters above sea level and reached the border out post of Phalelung-4 which is located at Faleut (Gorkhepani) which is 3 thousand 2 hundred meters above sea level. Along with promoting tourism through

adventure games, the competition was organized to give a message to the youth that they should stay away from drug addiction, said Ravana Rai of Parivartan Sangh, the organizer.
