Army defeated by 6 wickets
With the help of Kushal Bhurtel's half-century, Nepal Police Club defeated Tribhuvan Army Club in the Prime Minister's Cup Men's National Cricket Tournament on Saturday.
Former champions Police won the title for the fourth time after defeating another departmental team Army Club in the final held at Siddharth Cricket Stadium at Bhairahwa in Rupandehi on Saturday.
Following the winning target of 155 runs given by the Army, Police made 157 runs losing 4 wickets in 25.2 overs. Opener Kushal Bhurtel scored the highest 61 runs in Police's victory. He hit 7 fours and 3 sixes in 70 balls.
Amit Shrestha scored 39 runs in 38 balls with the help of 2 fours and 3 sixes. Dilip Nath scored 31 runs unbeaten while Gulsan Jha was dismissed for 9 runs. Shahab Alam took the most 3 wickets for Army in bowling. Alam bowled 10 overs and gave away 51 runs. One wicket remained in the name of Naren Saud.
Before that, after the police won the toss and chose to field at the Siddharth Cricket Stadium, Army, who came to bat first, scored 154 runs losing all wickets in 43 overs with the explosive batting of Bashir Ahmed. Basir Ahmed remained unbeaten and contributed the most 86 runs for Army. He hit 9 fours and a six in 104 balls. Captain Vinod Bhandari was dismissed after scoring 29 runs off 58 balls while Vivek Yadav scored 11 runs. No other player could score runs in double figures. Army's Bhim Sarki, Kushal Malla and Shahab Alam were dismissed for zero runs.
Army's Karan KC took 3 wickets to stop the army cheaply. He spent 30 runs keeping a maiden in 7 overs. Sagar Dhakal took 2 wickets, Captain Dipendra Singh Airi took 2 wickets while Lalit Rajwanshi and Gulsan Jha took one wicket each. Kushal Bhurtel bowled 5 overs and took 24 wickets.
Last year, the police won the title by defeating the army in the final as well. After a tie in the final of the first edition of the Prime Minister's Cup Cricket held in 2017, both the Police and Army teams won the joint title. Since then, Police has won the title 2 times while Army has won 1 time.
