Anish Thapamagar has won the third Lumbini Peace Marathon title. Anish of the Indian Army's Four Eight Gorkha Rifles completed the 42.195 km marathon in 2 hours 20 minutes 18 seconds. He received an award of Rs 350,000.
Anish from Phalebas Municipality-2 in Parbat has been serving in the Indian Army for 16 years. After 38 km, he overtook the Kenyan runner from Persachok.
He was fourth in the second Lumbini Peace Marathon last year. Sushil Kumar Shahi of Tribhuvan Army Club came second. He finished in 2 hours 20 minutes 25 seconds and won the prize of 250,000. Kenyan runner Stephen Kasgei finished third. He finished in 2 hours 20 minutes 47 seconds and won the prize of 1 lakh 50 thousand.
winner Anish said he was very happy to come to Shanti Bhoomi and win the title. The message from here is universal. That's why I wished for world peace while running. I am happy to win the peace prize at the fountain of peace,” he said. He said that he was proud to come from thousands of miles away and exchange happiness with success.
Santoshi Shrestha has won the women's half marathon title. She completed the 21 km distance in 1 hour 20 minutes 5 seconds. She received an award of 150,000. Purnalakshmi Neupane of Tribhuvan Army Club finished second with a time of 2 hours 21 minutes 49 seconds. She got 1 lakh. China's Chen Wei was third in 2 hours and 26 seconds.
She got 80 thousand. Nageshwar Ahir, Ganesh Singh Rawat and Bhupendra Sunar finished in the top three positions in the men's 5 km race. Nageshwar completed the race in 15 minutes 46.8 seconds. Ganesh completed the race in 15 minutes 50.4 seconds and Bhupendra in 16 minutes 0.1 seconds. In the women's 5 km race, Neermaya Choudhary finished first with a time of 21 minutes 14.44 seconds. The Chinese runners finished second and third. Qin Wanchi completed the race in 33 minutes 27.18 and Wang Yachi in 33 minutes 40.27 seconds.
Krishna Periyar came first in the 5 km student race. Amrit Vishwakarma was second and Umesh Barai third. On the female side, Chandni Pasi, Kusum Thagunna and Maya Barai won the top three positions. Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Chen Song and Nepal Olympic Committee President Jeevan Ram Shrestha distributed the prizes to the winning athletes.
As part of the second Lumbini International Peace and International Meditation Festival program, the third Lumbini Peace Marathon was organized by various agencies including the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation in collaboration with the Chinese Embassy. 6 runners from Kenya, 50 from China and 100 from Nepal ran in the competition. The marathon starts from Lumbini Square and ends there.
