Sport Climbing: Tenzing and Swastika Champion

Tenzing Rai and Swastika Chaudhary won the title of Wongchu Peak and Musa Masala National Sport Climbing Championship on Saturday.

In the men's competition held by Nepal Climbing Sport Association (NCSA), Tenzing became the champion by scoring 1805 points overall. Tenzing, who scored 1,000 in Boulder, scored 805 in the lead, but scored more overall and won.

Pemba Chhewang Sherpa Rai came second with a score of 1690. Pemba added a score of 690 in Boulder. But after adding 1000 points to the lead, he became second overall. Raunak Upreti was third. Raunak, who scored 805 in Boulder, finished third with a score of 1495 in the lead with a score of 690. On the men's side, 13 players competed. 8 players were selected in the final round.

On the women's side, Swastika performed well in both categories. He  She scored 1,000 in both lead and boulder and became the champion with an overall score of 2,000. Rusha Pradhan was second and Manisha Budha Magar was third. Rusha scored the same 805 in both lead and bouldering. Manisha also scored 690 in both categories. Along with the top three, Tenzing Khando Tamang, Panchmaya Tamang and Santoshi Magar, only 6 players participated.

Women's and men's champions both won medals with 50,000. The second got 30,000 and the third got 20,000. For the first time after 6 years, the National Championship of Climbing Sport was held. Earlier, the championship was held in 2019. After that, the championship could not be held for a long time due to the corona epidemic and other reasons. Ramesh Paudel, executive president of Nepal Climbing Sport Association, said that they have succeeded in holding the championship after a long time. He said that the goal is to take Nepali climbing sport to the Olympics.

He said that climbing sport has great potential in Nepal and after the National Championship is organized, there will be opportunities for other sportsmen as well.  Deepak Lama, Member Secretary of Provincial Sports Development Council, Bagmati, said that the province is ready to help as there is potential in climbing sports.
