The departmental team Tribhuvan Army Club has won the title of the first Pokhara Com National Men's Handball Tournament. On Tuesday, the home team became the army champion by defeating the team of Gandaki province in the final at Pokhara Stadium by 37-32.
In the highly competitive final, Gandaki was unable to maintain his lead and had to lose. When Gandaki lost their rhythm while leading 27-25, Army managed to become the winner after strengthening the defense line. Nirmal Babu Shrestha contributed the most 16 goals for Army. Along with the title, the Army received one lakh rupees. Runner-up Gandaki received Rs. 50,000. APF club came third and received 30,000 rupees. Army's Nirmalbabu Shrestha was declared the best player of the
competition. Vishal Nepali from Gandaki was declared the best goalkeeper. APF's Dipendra Budhathoki became the highest scorer in the tournament. He scored a total of 53 goals throughout the tournament. The three best players in each category received five thousand rupees each. Former Chief Minister of Gandaki Province Khagraj Adhikari handed over the prizes to the winning team and players.
On Tuesday, before the finals, the semi-finals and third place matches were held. In the first semi-final, Gandaki defeated APF 40-33 and Army defeated Koshi 55-32 to enter the final. APF defeated Koshi 55-23 in the third place match. Koshi Pradesh, Lumbini Pradesh, Karnali Pradesh, Sudurpaschim Pradesh and two departmental teams Tribhuvan Army Club and APF Club participated in the tournament which started from Sunday.
