Church Boys United became the fifth Mechinagar Gold Cup champions with a hard-fought 1-0 win against the host Kakadvitta Football Training Centre.

Along with the title, Church Wise received a prize of Rs 10 lakh and runner-up Kakadvitta got Rs 5 lakh. In the 11th minute of the game, Samir Tamang of Church Wise scored the decisive goal. Abhishek Gurung, the defender of the host, could not clear the ball in the penalty area and Samir scored. His same goal became decisive to win the title. 

The player of the match was Samir Tamang of Church Wise. He got 11 thousand. Birtamod United, Jhapa 11, Tribhuvan Army Club and Nepal Police Club won the title of the competition starting from 2071.

While awarding the winners, the Chief Minister of Koshi Province, Hikmat Karki, said that the government should move forward by making policy arrangements for the development of the game as a whole, such as the upgradation of the playing field and the production of players. Although some sports have been able to garner attention at the international level, many sports have not been able to progress completely. The Koshi state government has taken serious steps in such matters," he said. "There is a plan to develop the entire sports sector by making the Koshi sports village." The players of various sports who have made Mechinagar known through football have been honored. Among those honored were Sandesh Shrestha, Narottam Gautam, Sangeeta Raut, Luna Pradhan, Leela Thapa. They were honored with cash.
