Nepal has been defeated in the first match of the four-nation tournament that started on Saturday in Uganda. Namibia defeated their first time opponent Nepal in Entebbe by 6 wickets using the Duckworth-Lewis method.
After winning the toss and batting, Nepal was bowled out for 92 runs. In response, Namibia scored 39 runs after losing 1 wicket in 8 overs, but the match was interrupted by rain. After the rain stopped, Namibia were given a new target of 71 runs in 15 overs.
Namibia completed the target in 14.5 overs. Opener Makelaye Watile scored the most 26 runs. She hit 3 fours in 35 balls. Juriine Diergaardt remained unbeaten on 13 runs off 7 balls with 1 boundary. Captain Indu Burma, Pooja Mahato, Kavita Joshi and Ishwari Bisht took 1 wicket each from Nepal.
Before that, Nepal's opener Jakjan Khadka scored the most 18 runs. She got off to an aggressive start and hit 4 fours off 11 balls. However, after the other opener Rubina Chhetri along with Rajmati Airi, Rachna Chaudhary were dismissed for zero, Nepal had to play under pressure for the rest of the time. Pooja scored 13 with 1 boundary in 20 balls, Captain Indu 2, Roma Thapa 9, Elisa Yadav and Riya Sharma who was making her 'debut' were dismissed for 1-1 runs.
Ishwari remained unbeaten on 17 runs. She hit 2 fours in 14 balls. Wilka Watile and Makelaye Watile took 3 wickets each from Namibia. Nepal is playing against the home team Uganda on Sunday in a tournament that also includes Uganda and Hong Kong.
This is Nepal's ninth consecutive defeat. Since defeating UAE by 6 wickets in Sri Lanka on July 19 last year, Nepal has been losing continuously.
