Jhapa FC, which is preparing for the Nepal Super League (NSL), has been eliminated from the first match of the fifth Mechinagar Gold Cup football tournament. On Sunday, the National League winners, Church Wise United, defeated Jhapa FC in Sudden Dethma and prevented them from reaching the last four.
The well-known rivals who met at the local Kakadvitta Mavi ground made it 1-1 after the scheduled time . After the match was tied, it went to a tiebreaker . Even in the tiebreaker, the game was decided by sudden death after a 4-4 tie.
Church Wise goalkeeper Tikendra Thapa made an excellent save in sudden death. He has succeeded in nullifying the blows of Jhapa's Dheeraj Bista .
Before that, Rajesh Periyar, Jai Gurung, Ekraj Budhathoki and Richard Wilson of Church Voice scored goals in the tie-breaker, while Surajju Thakuri's shot was blocked by Jhapa's goalkeeper Krishal Moktan . Jhapa's captain Shyam Murmu scored a goal in the 90th minute to equalize the game, and the game reached an exciting stage. The ball rebounded from a defender of Church Voice and Murmu scored with one touch.
Both teams tried to score goals throughout the game but missed many opportunities . The opportunity to double the lead was lost in the 72nd minute when Surajju Thakuri of Church Voice failed to take a corner kick. Jhapa FC's Dheeraj Bista, Praveen Basnet, Faizal and captain Aryan Rai's shots could not be converted into goals .
Church Wise's goalkeeper Tkendra Thapa was declared the player of the match. He got a cash prize of Rs 11,000.
Suman Shrestha, the coach of Church Voices, said that due to the busy schedule, the players were tired and failed to perform as expected. Pravesh Katuwal, the coach of Jhapa FC, said that the victory did not come as expected due to the fact that only a limited number of players were fielded in preparation for the NSL.
The match between Dharan FC and Vlak Bulls FC of Uzbekistan will be played on Monday, according to the organizer Kakdvitta Football Training Center . The winning team of the competition will get Rs 10 lakh and the runner-up will get Rs 5 lakh. 8 teams including India and Uzbekistan are participating in the tournament. The final of the competition will be held on 2nd Chait .
