Three Star Club has reached the semi-finals of the 9th Virat Gold Cup football tournament being held in Biratnagar.

Three Star defeated the defending champions Machindra FC 2-1 in the third quarter-final at Shahid Stadium on Friday and made it to the last four. Three Star will compete against Tribhuvan Army in the first semi-final on Sunday.

Ashish Chapagain and Dipesh Ghale scored 1-1 goals in the victory of former winners Threestar. In the 15th minute, Ashish of Three Star scored a goal from inside the box through Angel Maharjan's pass. Less than 10 minutes after taking the lead, Dipesh added a goal in the 25th minute.

Captain Devendra Tamang's head goal from Machindra in the 89th minute of the game became a consolation for the team. Deepesh Ghale of Threestar was declared as the man of the match. He got 11 thousand. Threestar avenged their loss in the Kapilbastu Tilaurakot Gold Cup final on Wednesday by coming to Virat Gold Cup.  

Saturday's match will be between Church Boys United and NRT.
