Himalayan Chess Academy is going to hold Himalayan Freestyle Chess Championship for the first time in Nepal as a new experiment in chess. The competition will be held on 1st of Chait.
Academy president Monalisa Khambu said that the academy is going to organize a freestyle chess championship on the occasion of its anniversary. Former World Champion American Grandmaster Bobby Fischer started freestyle chess as an attempt to make traditional chess interesting. By organizing this competition, Himalayan Chess Academy has taken the initiative to introduce freestyle chess in Nepal. According to Yasir Khambu, chief arbiter of the
championship, the freestyle chess league will be based on knockout. The participating players will be divided into four groups and the group stage matches will be held at the Thapathali Chess Hall. The four group winners will enter the finals. They will compete on the basis of knockout in the final on March 1.
academy is organizing two competitions simultaneously on Chait 1. The 'Himalayan Blitz Cup' will be organized along with the Freestyle Championship.
The total prize of the two competitions is 1 lakh 25 thousand rupees. The freestyle winner will get 25,000, the runner-up will get 9,600 and the loser in the semi-finals will get 6,400.
The winner of the Blitz Cup, which includes 16 events, will receive 15,000, the runner-up will receive 7,500, the third will receive 6,000 and the fourth will receive 4,000. The academy is going to organize seven competitions within a year.
