The two-day NCC Junior Checkmate Chess Tournament has been completed among the young chess players of Kathmandu Valley. There were 101 competitors from 24 schools in the competition organized by NCC Education and Sports Committee in collaboration with Himalayan Chess Academy and Mice Events. A competition was held by forming groups of students in classes 3-5 and classes 6-8.
Glossy Shrestha of Future Star Academy won the title for class 3-5 girls. Suwani Rana of Siddharth Vanasthali Institute and Tistina Basnet of Annapurna Mavi stood second and third. On the student side, Yunish Khadka of Annapurna University was the winner. Sanskriti's Sambar Thulung was second and Greenland's Sulabh Panthi was third.
Nihana Shrestha of Marvelous won the title in the class 6-8 category. Annapurna Mavi's Ojashwi Shrestha was second and Divine's Jenisha Neupane was third. On the student side, Satwikman Tuladhar of Nisarga Batika, Ayan Joshi and Dipan Mainali of Asian Public won the top three.
Swiss system was played in 6 rounds for boys and 4 rounds for girls. Nepal Chamber of Commerce President Kamlesh Agarwal and NCC Education and Sports Committee President Roopak Rajwanshi awarded the winners.
On the basis of overall performance, Annapurna University was at the top. Siddharth Vanasthali was second and Nisarga Batika was third. President Rajwanshi said that NCC will continue to promote intellectual sports and youth development.
