In the first match of the second edition of Birgunj Gold Cup, Birgunj United defeated Garhwal Diamond Football Club Delhi by 1-0. In the 52nd minute of the game, Garhwal player Sandeep Rana scored a suicide goal. When Rana tried to stop the ball hit by the United player, the ball went to the post. That suicide goal proved to be the deciding factor of the game.

United missed the penalty in the 20th minute of the game. The penalty shot by United captain Shis Thapa went off the post. The first half ended goalless. Both teams had an interesting competition. Garhwal's players tried aggressively to return the goal until the injury time. 

Delhi's Garhwal Diamond Football Club is out of the competition with the defeat. 

United Club's Vipin Magar, who was declared 'Man of the Match', received Rs 10,000 in cash . Sunday's match will be between Sankata Club Kathmandu and Sahlesh Football Club Siraha, according to the organizers.

Birgunj Mayor Rajeshman Singh inaugurated the second edition of Birgunj Gold Cup with the highest amount of money in Madhesh Pradesh. Eight teams from Nepal and India will compete in the Gold Cup organized by Veterans City Club from February 17 to 24 at the Adarshnagar Stadium in Birganj. Sankata Football Club, Machchindra Football Club, Bagmati Youth Club Sarlahi, Nepal Police Club, Garhwal Diamond Football Club Delhi, API Church Boys United Kathmandu, Salhesh Football Club Siraha and Birganj United Club participated in the second edition of the Gold Cup.

Gold Cup winner team will be given 11 lakh 11 thousand 111 rupees in cash and the runner-up will be given 5 lakh 55 thousand 555 rupees. An electric scooter will be awarded to the best player. Organizers have informed that the cash amount has been arranged for the best keeper and best coach. Similarly, the man of the match of each match will be awarded 10,000 rupees. It is estimated to spend about one crore seven lakh rupees to complete the competition. 

Birganj Municipal Corporation is the main sponsor of the competition. A temporary parafit has been constructed at the Adarshnagar stadium for the Gold Cup project. As Narayani Stadium is dilapidated, the Gold Cup has been organized at Adarshnagar Stadium. The first edition of the Gold Cup, which was held last year, was won by the departmental team Nepal Police Club.
