The Education, Health and Information Technology Committee of the Federal Parliament has inspected the Siddharth Cricket Ground at Bhairawa in Rupandehi and the Extra Tech Cricket Ground at Tilottama. The committee has pledged to complete the construction of the Siddhartha Cricket Stadium and take initiatives to manage the budget necessary to make it international level.
Chairman of the committee, Ammar Bahadur Thapa, said that the construction of the ground should not be delayed for years, and the budget should be allocated for the games based on the needs. "There was a problem in land acquisition and budget management according to DPR", he said, "Government needs to prioritize such matters, the committee will take initiative in this".
Thapa said that in the next budget, he will suggest to the Ministry of Sports to allocate the budget to complete the construction of Siddharth Cricket Ground. "If necessary, we will also give instructions to complete the upgradation of the ground", he said, "Cricket Association has given a report on the work to be done". There is an initiative to implement it .
Members of the parliamentary committee Rekha Sharma, Ishwari Gharti, Chabilal Vishwakarma, Devendra Paudel, Sarita Bhusal, Gyanu Basnet Subedi and others said that during the inspection, some land needs to be acquired and the work to be done according to the DPR is pending and the committee will take necessary steps to complete it . "We have a tendency to delay the plan for a long time", they said, "this has increased the cost, this is a serious matter".
members said that even though the management of the stadium is good, it is the government's weakness that the work cannot be done according to the DPR. They said that they will take immediate action on budget management and necessary steps upon their return to Kathmandu. Due to the lack of multi-year contracts, the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the National Sports Council (Rakhep) not releasing sufficient budget, only about 16 percent of the work has been done in the decade and a half since the start of making the cricket ground international. In the year 2068, Bhairahwa and Mul Pani started to build an international level ground.
International matches are held in Moolpani, the budget allocation has stopped for us, Hari Bahadur Thapa, President of Rupandehi Cricket Association said. "Its cost has increased and even doubled", he said, "we expect that the work will speed up with the initiative of the committee." The
committee also inspected and discussed the extratech oval cricket ground being built by the private sector at Tilottama in Rupandehi only on Thursday.
