Army, Karnali and APF in the semi-finals along with host Gorkhali

In the first Gorkhali Rugby Sevens tournament, the organizers Gorkhali Rugby Club, Tribhuvan Army Club, Karnali Pradesh and APF Club have reached the semi-finals.

Lumbini, Madhash and Gandaki state teams were eliminated after the league stage match at Krishnapur Stadium in Bharatpur on Friday. In the tournament, which was divided into two groups between seven teams, the host Gorkhali and Karnali reached the semi-finals from Group A. The hosts won both the league matches and became the group winners. Gorkhali defeated Gandaki Province by 22-0 and Karnali Province by 22-7. Karnali defeated Gandaki Pradesh with a score of 26-5.

Tribhuvan Army League won all three matches from Group B and became the group winners. The team defeated APF by 34-5, Lumwini Province by 43-0 and Madhesh Province by 43-0. APF, who became the group runners-up, defeated Madhesh Province by 24-5 and Lumbini Province by 45-0.

When Madhesh defeated Lumwini Pradesh 24-7, Lumbini lost all three league games.

Gorkhali Rugby will play against APF and Army against Karnali Pradesh in the semi-finals on Saturday. The final will be held on Saturday itself. Bagmati Province MP Ishwar Sapkota inaugurated the

competition by unveiling the trophy. He discussed that the game of rugby is progressing rapidly in Nepal and said that its impact has started to improve at the local level. President of Gorkhali Rugby Club Rohit Karki said that next year the tournament will be internationalized. General Secretary of Nepal Rugby Association Gobind Ghimire expressed confidence that rugby will win medals for Nepal in the 14th South Asian Games. The winning team of the

competition will receive 2 lakh and the runner-up team will receive 1 lakh.
