Snooker tournament with the highest prize money has started in Butwal. The first All Nepal Butwal Mayor's Cup Open Snooker Championship tournament was inaugurated by Khelraj Pandey, Head of Butwal Sub-Metropolitan City on Monday. He said that with the aim of developing Butwal as a hub for education, health and sports, the sub-metropolitan municipality has invested in the field of sports.
Saroj Kumar Mulmi, the central president of Nepal Williards Snooker and Pool Association, said that the national level tournament which was held only in Kathmandu, has recently started in Butwal and other places and said that this tournament will raise the level of snooker game. 128 players from major cities of the country are competing in the
competition. Sujan Pun, President of Nepal Billiards Snooker and Pool Association Rupandehi, said that the winner of the competition, which will last until February 21, will receive 3 lakh 3 thousand rupees, the runner-up will receive 1 lakh 1 thousand rupees and the 'highest breaker' will receive 55 thousand rupees.
He said that players who reach the semi-finals will be rewarded with cash 30/30 thousand, rising stars and disciplined players will be rewarded with snooker sticks . "Since this is the highest amount in the competition so far, it is very important," he said.
