The national men's volleyball tournament has started at Libang in Rolpa from Saturday. The local Sun Star Youth Club has organized a national level competition in the district with huge prize money.
While inaugurating the competition, former Deputy Prime Minister, Finance and Communications Minister Krishna Bahadur Mahara said that it is a good thing that the sports competition is organized outside the capital with huge prizes. Former Chief Ministers of Lumbini Province Kulprasad KC and Jokh Bahadur Mahara were also present at the inauguration.
The competition will continue from February 10th to 14th at Rolpa's headquarter Libang. The club has announced more than 9 lakh prize money in the national men's volleyball tournament. This is the second edition of the sports competition organized by
club. The club completed the first edition of the tournament in Libang about 10 years ago. On the occasion of the club's 13th anniversary, a national volleyball tournament was organized.
The winning team will win the Sun-Star trophy with 5 lakh rupees. The runner-up will win Rs 250,000 and the third runner-up will win Rs 1 lakh. 50,000 will be awarded to the consolation team. Purna KC, president of the club, said that the best players, spikers, blockers, setters and defenders will also be given cash prizes.
On the first day, the match between the host team and Madhes Pradesh and between Tribhuvan Army Club and Karnali Pradesh has been completed.
This is the biggest prize money competition of any sports event organized in Rolpa. 7 teams have participated in the competition along with the host. Tribhuvan Army Club, Nepal Police Club and APF Club were asked to participate with 1-1 teams from seven provinces, but teams from Sudurpaschim, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces and the APF team did not participate.
8 teams will compete for women
Similarly, district-level open women's volleyball tournament is also organized 8 teams from the local level will compete in the competition. There will be a competition between participating women's teams on the recommendation of the local level.
Out of the 10 rural villages except Sukidah and Runtigadhi, women's teams have been sent. The winner will win 55,000, the second runner-up 35,000, the third runner-up 15,000 and the fourth runner-up will win 10,000. Organizers estimate that the tournament will cost around 40 lakh rupees.
