Gorkhali Rugby Club is going to hold the Gorkhali Rugby Sevens Men's National Rugby Tournament at Krishnapur Stadium in Bharatpur, Chitwan. It was informed in a press conference on Friday that seven provincial teams, two departmental teams of Nepali Army and Armed Police Force APF club and organizer Gorkhali Rugby will participate in the tournament on February 16 and 17.
The winner will get a prize of Rs 2 lakh and the runner-up will get Rs 1 lakh. According to the club, this is the biggest prize money ever given in Nepali rugby. The best player will receive a set of Italian suits from Vardana Couture. It is estimated that about 2.1 million budget will be spent on the
competition. In which the organizer will bear the one-way transportation and hotel expenses of the participating team.
National Sports Council, Bharatpur Metropolitan City and Bagmati Province Sports Development Council will support the competition.
President of Gorkhali Club and businessman Rohit Karki has promised to bear the insufficient amount himself. President Karki said, "In addition to the club becoming the winner of various age group competitions, last year we became the champion in the national competition of 15-a-side rugby." Now we want to contribute to the development of rugby by making the project successful.' Club Vice President Krishna Thapa said that after the success of Gorkhali Rugby on the field, now they are going to focus on organizing the tournament.
