Nepal is going to participate in the 3rd World Mountain and Trail Running Championship to be held in Spain from September 25 to 28.
Nepal Adventure Running Federation held a press conference on Thursday and said that Nepali athletes will be selected to participate in the World Mountain and Trail Running Championship. Ekendra Kanwar, president of the
Federation, said that they are preparing to have a team of 10 people from Nepal including 4 female and 4 male players and 2 officials participate in the championship.
World Athletics, World Mountain Running Association, International Trail Running Association (ITRA), IAU and Spanish Trail Association will organize the championship jointly.
Federation's international affairs coordinator Preeti Khatri said that interested players can register their names first and then the player selection process will proceed. She said that the players will be selected after a month in April.
According to him, after selecting the players, the federation will make an agreement for them to find their own sponsors. But until then, the federation will try to find a sponsor for the players, Kunwar said. He said that since this federation is a new association, they will be looking for partners gradually.
Suman Kulung, the top ranking male player of Nepal, was invited by Austria-based Dr. Sponsored by Sigrid Foundation. As Suman has already got her sponsor, her participation is almost certain. Kailash Phuga has also sponsored Sunmaya Budha, who is competing in trail running outside Nepal.
At the end of March, the Federation is preparing to invite the top-ranked athletes based on the International Trail Running Association (ITRA) scores.
President Kunwar informed that the Federation is preparing for Nepal's biggest Khaptad Ramaroshan Ultra Trail Race in May and Langtang-Shivapuri Ultra Trail Race on March 17.
