Machindra Club edged closer to the title of the 15th International Invitational Control Itahari Gold Cup football tournament with a comeback win over United Kharsang Football Club (UKFC). Machindra defeated Kharsang 3-1 in the first semi-final at Itahari Stadium on Wednesday and entered the final.
Machindra, who presented an aggressive game from the beginning of the game, failed to make a dozen shots in the first half. Three times the shot hit the post and came back, while half a dozen shots were blocked by defenders and goalkeepers. Despite keeping Kharsang under pressure throughout the game, Hemraj Bhujel took advantage of goalkeeper Vishal Shrestha's mistake in the 65th minute to give Kharsang the lead.
Machindra had an opportunity to score a penalty less than 5 minutes later. Machindra's foreign player Omolaja Nuren Harim equalized the game by scoring a penalty and Mallik Yusuf scored a goal in the 72nd minute to give the team a 2-1 lead. Moving the ball forward from the middle, Mallick scored a stunning goal in a one-vs-one situation to bring the team back. He scored another goal in extra 4 minutes. Yusuf, who was chosen as the player of the match, received 10,000 in cash.
In Thursday's second semi-final, Machindra will face the winner between two-time winners Sagarmatha Youth Club Morang and Dharan Football Club Sunsari in the final.
