Xavier College has won the title of the 4th Herald Cup Intercollegiate Basketball Tournament. Xavier defeated Greenfield with a score of 77-69 in the competitive final on the court of the host Herald College on Thursday. Ridash Casey of Xavier added 21 points. Sonam Lama of Greenfield scored 27 but could not win.
Greenfield was deprived of the title because it could not protect the lead it took in the first and second quarters. Greenfield performed 19-12 in the first quarter and 17-13 in the second. Xavier took a 24-13 lead in the third and tied the game at 49-49. In the fourth quarter, Xavier won the title by leading 28-20.
Xavier is undefeated and becomes the winner. Xavier defeated Nami, South Western and British Gurkhas in the group stage match. Xavier pushed aside Angel's Heart and Golden Gate. Xavier's Asim Thapa was declared 'Most Valuable Player'.
In the match for the third place, the host Herald defeated Goldengate College 57-41 and lost the third place. Herald's Krishna Singh added 21 scores. Vinod Regmi, Associate Professor of Herald, Shift Incharge Rajeshraj Aryal and Academic Coordinator Dipendra Pudasaini awarded the winners.
