The first runner-up in the male category received Rs 150,000 and the first runner-up in the female category received Rs 60,000.
Saniveri Rural Municipality of Rukum West organized 'National Maurakhara Guerrilla Marathon' on the occasion of 'People's War Day'. In the seventh edition of the marathon held on Thursday, Durga Budha of Rukum West and Kalpana Budha of Jumla stood first in the men's category.
Durga was the winner by covering the prescribed distance of 48 km in 4 hours and 52 minutes and Kalpana was the winner by covering the distance of 34 km in 3 hours and 14 minutes. In addition to this, Bhuvan Oli of Rukum West came in second by crossing the prescribed distance in 4 hours and 53 minutes and Arjun Basnet of Rukum West came third in 4 hours and 57 minutes, said Bhim Prakash Vick, Chairman of Village Sports Development Committee. According to him, Rajya Lakshmi Rawat of Jumla has crossed the time limit of 3 hours and 16 minutes and Sandipa Budha of Jumla has won the third place with a distance of 3 hours and 57 minutes.
Among the winners of the marathon, 150,000 for men, 150,000 for the second, 250,000 for the second and 45,000 for the third, as well as medals and certificates, while the first for women received 60,000, the second for 40,000 and the third for 20,000 cash, medals and certificates.
53 men and 32 women participated in this year's marathon. Birkh Bahadur Bista, chairman of the municipality, said that the then CPN-Maoist armed insurgency started on February 1, 2052 as 'People's War Day' and organized public holidays every year.
The players who participate in the tournament organized every year wear the clothes worn by the then Maoist guerillas.
