Nepal's international taekwondo referee Raju Chhetri will play the role of judge in the US Open Taekwondo Championship, a world-ranked G-2 competition.
About 2,400 players from 50 countries are competing in the tournament in Reno, Nevada, USA from February 14 to 16. This is the third time in a row that an international jury will act as a judge at the US Open. Organized by World Taekwondo in conjunction with US Taekwondo and the US Olympics, the tournament is one of the world's largest.
Kshettri had earlier served as a referee at the US Open Championship held in Las Vegas in 2023 and Reno last year. Similarly, he played the role of a judge in the Kimunyong Cup, the world ranking Jee-Wan tournament in South Korea, the Japan Open in Osaka, Japan and the Seongnam Open tournament in Korea in 2023.
Kshetri won gold as a player in the world ranking G-2 Korean Open international tournament in 2008. Due to his contribution in the field of sports, Chettri was honored by the Korean government in 2013 with honorary citizenship.
