Bangladesh cricketer Soheli Akhtar has been banned by the ICC for five years on corruption charges. He was banned from all forms of cricket for five years after admitting to violating the ICC's anti-corruption code.

Akhtar offered 13,000 pounds (16,000 dollars) to a Bangladeshi player in the Women's T20 World Cup in South Africa in 2023.

The unnamed player reported about Akhtar. She was not involved in that competition. Bangladesh Cricket Board Director and Head of Women's Department Najmul Abedin Fahim said Akhtar's action was "unfortunate".

"We adopt a zero-tolerance policy on this issue and are working hard to stop fixing at all levels of Bangladesh cricket," said Fahim.

36-year-old spinner Akhtar has played 13 T-20 and two ODI matches for his country. She last played for Bangladesh in 2022. Among the

ing allegations, Akhtar has also admitted to delaying or obstructing the investigation of her conduct.
