For the second time in a row, Three Star is heading for the title of Aha Rara Pokhara Gold Cup, young goalkeeper Sarin GC has become the hero.
After beating Machindra Football Club 4-2 in a tiebreaker, Three Star Club reached the semi-finals of the ongoing 24th Aha-Rara Pokhara Gold Cup Football in Pokhara. Goalkeeper Sarin GC became the hero when five-time title winners and former runners-up Three Star beat Machindra in the quarterfinals on Sunday.
Coach Ganesh Khadka brought him into the field as a substitute for Abhishek Baral at the last minute of the match. His same decision helped Threestar reach the semi-finals.
After the scheduled 90 and extra 30 minutes ended in a goalless draw, the match went to a tiebreaker. Dipesh Ghale, Fofana, Viraj Maharjan and Laxman Ruchal scored for Three Star. Machindra's Vishal Ghalan hit the bar and bounced back. Another player Aditya Shakya's penalty was saved by three star's young goalkeeper Sarin GC. Diwakar Chaudhary and Sanish Shrestha scored goals for Machindra. Threestar's Dipesh Ghale became the player of the match.
The match between Three Star, which is full of experienced players, and Machindra, which has about half a dozen players who have played in the national team, was expected to be competitive. As a result, both attempts to score for 120 minutes failed.
Both of them could not use the opportunity they got. Manish Dangi of Machindra hit the ball that was not cleared by the defender of Three Star in the second minute of the game, but it did not hit the target. game, Threestar missed out on taking the lead. Dipesh Ghale's shot from the right side hit the bar. Kamal Shrestha's shot from the corner in the 24th minute was saved by Machindra goalkeeper Vishal Shrestha. In the 78th minute of the game, Machindra's Sanish Shrestha's free kick was cleared by the Three Star players.
However, Saurabh Limbu could not direct the ball hit by Sanish in the corner. Threestar's Fode Fofana's injury-time strike hit the post. Experienced player Viraj Maharjan entered the field replacing Kalam Shrestha of Three Star in the 116th minute. During the injury time of extra time, the coach also changed the goalkeeper.
Machindra defeated APF in the pre-quarterfinals, while Threestar got direct quarterfinal entry. Threestar previously won the title in 063, 067, 069, 071 and 075. Three Star lost to Tribhuvan Army 3-0 in the final last year.
Threestar will play the winner of Sikkim's Thunderbolt North United and Black Bulls Football Club of Uzbekistan in the semi-finals on February 1.
Monday will be a match between Church Boys United and former winners Tribhuvan Army Club. Church Boys defeated NRT to reach the quarter finals. Army is going to play the quarterfinals directly.
