Six years ago, CYC Attaria won the Dhangadhi Premier League (DPL) cricket title under the captaincy of Dipendra Singh Airi. Coincidentally, that was the last version of DPL. Since then, Dipendra, who has now become a superstar of Nepali cricket, was on Sunday for the first time at the Phapla cricket ground.
With the arrival of Dipendra, this time too, the victory remained with Attaria. But this time he was not in Attaria's team. Attaria reached the final of the Arjuna Trophy national cricket tournament after defeating the home team DCA Dhangadhi by 6 wickets including Dipendra. Attaria will face Friends Youth Club Dadeldhura in the final on Monday.
Dhangadhi, who came into bat after winning the toss, played the entire over and was bowled out for 108 runs. After Lokesh Bomb 11 off 12 balls, Amit Shrestha 5 runs and Vasant Karki dismissed for zero, Dipendra came to the crease to bat in the sixth over. He scored 15 runs off 18 balls and was caught by Shahab Alam off Kamal Gupta.
After Dipendra got out, the spectators who came to watch his game in large numbers were disappointed. Dipendra and Lalit Rajwanshi, who were chosen as the two best players in the Nepal Premier League, which was completed two months ago, did not go well in the semi-finals of Dhangadhi. Dipendra, who joined Golf Giant in the International League Twenty-20 in UAE, arrived in Dhangadhi on Saturday evening.
Captain Narayan Joshi was dismissed for zero on the next ball. Abhishek Pal hit 3 fours off 27 balls and got out for 27 runs. After Rahul Bhandari scored 13 off 22 balls and Milan Bohra scored 18 off 28 balls, Dhangadhi barely crossed the score of 100 runs. Milan hit 2 fours and 1 six.
In Dhangadhi's innings where three players were run out, Vivek Yadav and Kamal Gupta took 2-2 and Rashid Khan, Dipesh Kandel and Shahav Alam took 1-1 wicket each. Vivek spent 19 runs in 4 overs and Kamal spent only 20 runs in 4 overs.
In the first two overs, Lalit Rajvanshi dismissed Tritraraj Das for zero and Bhojraj Bhatt dismissed captain Santosh Karki for 4 runs, but Shankar Rana's unbeaten half-century saw Attaria score 114 runs in 18 overs. When the score was tied, Vivek hit the winning six.
Shankar 56 and Vivek remained unbeaten by scoring 12 runs. Player of the match Shankar hit 3 fours and 4 sixes in 55 balls. Bhim Saraki played 2 fours and 1 six off 16 balls and Dipesh scored 24 runs off 25 balls and hit 2 fours. Shankar and Dipesh shared 71 runs in 11 overs to make Attaria victorious. Dhangadhi's Hikmat Mahara took 2 wickets for 16 runs in 3 overs and Lalit Rajvanshi and Bhojraj took 1 wicket each.
The winner of the competition organized by Go Dreamers in memory of coach Arjun Khadka of Dhangadhi region will get 10 lakh and the runner-up will get 5 lakh cash.
