The State Sports Development Board is going to organize the Koshi State Level Sports Festival from February 13 to 18. Kalidas Bhattarai, executive officer of the board, said that 11 games will be held in the festival, including the ancient game Bagchal to the now popular Doritan tournament.
All games except women's volleyball will be held in the state capital Biratnagar. Correspondence has been sent to all 14 District Sports Development Committees for the presence of players of all sports in the festival. There will be football and volleyball for women only, while soft tennis, doritan and kabaddi competitions will be held for men only.
Athletics, table tennis, intelligence, karate and taekwondo competitions will be held for both men and women. Baghchal is reserved for veterans. "Baghchal is a very old sport, its players have to be found long ago," said Narendra Limbu, president of District Sports Development Committee, Taplejung, "We have started to get interest from veteran players."
According to official Bhattarai, all games except women's volleyball will be held in Biratnagar. Women's Volleyball will be held at the Himalayan Mavi in Jhapa, Damak. The board has estimated that 1,200 players from the province will participate in the festival. "This is a competition according to the annual program of the province," he said. According to Yajnidhi Paudel, officer of District Sports Development Committee Taplejung, the festival will enhance the talent of Kholadi.
